2018 Met Gala Theme : “Heavenly Bodies”



The 2018 Met Gala will be held today  Monday May 7 in New York  The fashion fundraising  event  will give  donations and proceeds towards the Met’s Costume Institute. The event  will be held  at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and kicks off the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.

Themes in the past include  honoring  Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçon,   “China: Through the Looking Glass” and  in  2016 theme “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology” and 2013 theme, “Punk: Chaos to Couture.”


The theme for this year is  “Heavenly Bodies”

The exhibit  will focuses on how the church and  religion  influenced fashion.   A variety of items  from the Sistine Chapel, some which have never left the Vatican before now will be featured . The Metropolitan Museum of Art will launch its biggest Costume Institute collection yet on Monday. Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, featuring couture from fashion  brands including  Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, and Schiaparelli alongside 41 pieces of ecclesiastical dress on loan from the Vatican, will explore the intersection of the sacred and the profane , with  the role dress plays within the Roman Catholic Church and the role the Roman Catholic Church plays within the fashionable imagination.”
