Peplum is a Greek word for ‘tunic’ and it refers to a short overskirt or ruffle that is usually attached at the waistline of a fitted dress, jacket, skirt or blouse.
Peplums add detail to a garment and enhance style of the same. There are different types and designs of the overskirt. Some are barely seen on both side of a garment while some are very pronounced.
Peplums are very conspicuous and are usually the first thing you will notice on a garment. They also add a girlie feel to a dress and with the very pronounced peplums, there’s no need to accessorize much so that you don’t come out looking too busy and end up taking the attention away from the peplum. If you are wearing a peplum skirt, make sure your top is very simple.
If you are keen on paying attention to detail in everything that you wear and you are not scared of being stared at for looking hot, then peplums are for you.
You can never go wrong with a peplum jacket/blazer and if need be you could always add a belt.
If you wear a peplum top then make sure your bottoms don’t have so much going on.
Then there’s the sophisticated sheath peplum dress that makes you ooze confidence and of course sophistication!
