American actor Jamie Foxx has issued an apology to the Jewish community and anyone who felt offended by a social media post he made, which was criticized by some as being antisemitic.
The post in question was made after Foxx experienced a yet-to-be-disclosed “medical complication.” In a text post shared on his Instagram account, the Oscar-winning actor expressed his remorse, stating, “I want to apologize to the Jewish community and everyone who was offended by my post. I now know my choice of words have caused offense, and I’m sorry. That was never my intent.”
The controversial post, which is no longer visible on his feed, had referenced a person named Jesus being killed and posed a question about what could happen to someone else. Critics interpreted the use of the term “they” in the post as referring to the Jewish people, as antisemitism has historically linked Jews to the death of Jesus.
Foxx clarified that by using “they,” he was referring to being betrayed by a fake friend and not making any negative generalizations. He emphasized that he only holds love in his heart for everyone, expressing support for the Jewish community and apologizing to anyone who was offended.
Earlier in the week, the actor credited his sister, Deidra Dixon, with saving his life in a birthday tribute video he made for her.
