The 2020 Virtual Emmy Awards surprised us with a mini Friends reunion when former costars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow appeared.
Host Jimmy Kimmel was speaking with Jennifer Aniston for a segment during the live show when her “roommates” Cox and Kudrow joined in. “We’ve been living together since 1994,” Aniston joked while wrapped in a silky floral robe, referring to their famous characters, Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe.
The Aniston–Cox–Kudrow cameo arrives amid an extended wait for the highly anticipated Friends reunion special on HBO Max. The program will bring the trio together with the rest of their costars, Matt LeBlanc (Joey), Matthew Perry (Chandler), and David Schwimmer (Ross), although production has been delayed due to the coronavirus. But that only means the team has more time to create a great show.
“It’s going to be super,” Aniston told Deadline. “You know what? This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been. So I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed. Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You’re stuck with us for life guys.”
The special will see the cast together again at the original Friends soundstage, reminiscing about their hit series. It won’t be a new episode though. “The cast will be appearing as themselves, not as their beloved characters,” HBO clarified in a statement.
