Alicia Keys Is Launching a Skin Care Brand with E.l.f.

BEAUTYBEAUTY TRENDSBlogSKIN CARE
alicia-keys-is-launching-a-skin-care-brand-with-e-l-f

Alicia Keys  is collaborating with drugstore beauty favorite E.l.f to create a lifestyle beauty brand focused on wellness and self-care. The collection of skincare and wellness products will be cruelty-free.

Keys  new lifestyle beauty brand will enable Alicia to further explore conversations about inner beauty, wellness and connection,” notes the press release. “With an inclusive point of view, an authentic voice, and a line of skin-loving, dermatologist-developed, cruelty-free products, the brand aims to bring new meaning to beauty by honoring ritual in our daily life and practicing intention in every action.”

Last year, Keys showed off her nighttime skin care routine on her Youtube page, including her favorite face washtoner, and blemish serum. “My face is very prone to breakouts, so I am a fanatic about my face wash. I can’t just use everything I can’t just use anything,” she says. She also gave tips and tricks for using rose water, massaging your face, and how to unwind at the end of a long day.

Back in 2016, the musician and best-selling author penned a letter explaining why she was embracing a makeup-free lifestyle. “Every time I left the house, I would be worried if I didn’t put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture?? What if they POSTED it??? These were the insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts I was thinking. And all of it, one way or another, was based too much on what other people thought of me,” she wrote. Keys continued: “‘Cause I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.”

Keys aims to normalize the choice to wear (or not wear) makeup in public. “I’m not a slave to makeup. I’m not a slave to not wearing makeup either. I get to choose at [any] given moment. That’s my right,” she told Allure back in February 2017. Keys is often photographed at events wearing light touches of makeup—brows, concealer, light lashes—with a focus on fresh skin.

All that’s to say Keys knows her way around skincare products and how wellness and self-care can result in an insane glow. “Alicia gets regular facials, does acupuncture and she eats healthy and exercises,” Dotti, Keys’s go-to makeup artist, told in October 2016. “She knows you have to invest internally for your skin to look great externally. It’s also about how you process your energy. She comes from a very strong place and she comes from a very kind place. That in itself is super important. But it’s about the choices she’s making and the products she’s using. It’s the work of a good team.”

We look forward to seeing how Keys translates all she’s learned about healthy skin into drugstore skincare products available to all. We’ll update this story when we know more about the products, prices, and launch date for Alicia Keys’s collaboration with E.l.f. beauty.

Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty Line Will Be Released In September

BEAUTYBlogNEWS
selena-gomezs-rare-beauty-line-will-be-released-in-september

Selena Gomez announced  in February that she was going into makeup. The pandemic pushed the line’s summer 2020 launch date a little, but on August 4, Gomez announced the official release date: September 3, 2020.

“I’m SO excited to finally share that @RareBeauty will be launching September 3rd only at @Sephora, @SephoraCanada, @SephoraMx and RareBeauty.com,” Gomez wrote on her Instagram. “I’ve had so much fun creating everything and can’t wait for y’all to try it all! I hope you love it as much as I do!”

Here, everything we know so far about Rare Beauty:

What products will Selena’s makeup line have?

Gomez has confirmed the line will have foundation, concealer, lipstick, and eyeshadow. She told Amy Schumer in her Interview profile that there will be 48 shades of foundation. She also promised that she’ll make a mascara that doesn’t clump.

Schumer asked Gomez about her relationship with makeup. Gomez explained, “I wanted to start a conversation about how can you make yourself feel great. It’s not necessarily about needing these things to make yourself feel beautiful. People of my generation have all this pressure to look a certain way, and I wanted to make a line that took away a bit of that pressure. I use real people in the campaigns. I have 48 shades of foundation and concealer. It’s all very clean and easy. I wanted people to feel safe.”

What products has Selena teased so far?

Gomez has primarily showed off the line’s lipstick and eyeshadow colors, along with a look at its liquid eyeliner.

When is Rare Beauty launching?
Gomez initially said the line would come out in summer 2020 and that it would go global in 2021.

“The line is going to be at every Sephora store, and we will go globally next year,” Gomez said in February. “There’s lots and lots of other things I want to share with you guys, but we’re going to share them within a few months.”

In early August, Gomez announced the official launch date: late summer, September 3.

Has COVID-19 affected the launch of the line at all?
The Rare Beauty team is still working remotely, but the brand delayed the photo shoot for their first #WeAreRare campaign earlier this year. Rare Beauty had done an open casting call at the end of February.

In late March, the Rare Beauty IG updated fans on its status: “While our office is closed and our team is working remotely, stay tuned here for more ways we’ll be connecting with you and continue building this community together. Stay safe! 💖 #WeAreRare,” it wrote.

They’ve also been having a variety virtual community meetings with many ans. Rare Beauty shared a shot of one in mid-March. “Started our day off with our FIRST EVER community meetup!” the brand wrote on its IG. “Today we talked about what we’re grateful for, celebrating your uniqueness and future product ideas. Don’t worry, this is just the first of many and we can’t wait to meet more of you! Let us know below if you’re interested in joining our next meetup.

Where will Rare Beauty be available?
Rare Beauty will be in all Sephora stores (and Sephoras inside JC Penney) in the U.S. and Canada, along with presumably on Sephora’s site. It will also be available to purcahse on RareBeauty.com.

How did Selena announce Rare Beauty?
Selena Gomez announced the news in an Instagram Live on February 4. She described the project as “really exciting and very special” to her.

“I am launching my own beauty brand and it is called Rare Beauty,” she told her viewers. “This is something I started working on two years ago. I found the right partners and the right team…and it’s important to me because I wanted to make a brand where you feel comfortable.” Gomez cited the pressure people may feel to look a certain way or use certain products, calling it at times a bit isolating and not the ethos of Rare Beauty.

5 Makeup Ingredients to Avoid if You Have Dry Skin

BEAUTYBlogSKIN CARE
5-makeup-ingredients-to-avoid-if-you-have-dry-skin

According to dermatologists   you should avoid these ingredients in your makeup if you have dry skin.

Alcohol

This ingredient may appear in your products in a few different forms according to Rhonda Klein, M.D., MPH, FAAD, a dermatologist at Modern Dermatology. “SD Alcohol, Denatured Alcohol, or Isopropyl Alcohol, are all terms to look out for—the commonality in each of them is they’re drying to the skin,” she says. “You’ll often find it on a makeup label that also touts benefits like ‘quick-drying or matte finish,” Klein adds. What’s more, alcohol is a common trigger of eczema, rosacea and psoriasis.” Shari Sperling, M.D.

, a dermatologist at Sperling Dermatology agrees, calling alcohol “drying and irritating.”

Fragrances

While synthetic and natural fragrances are often added to products to make them smell nice, they can be damaging if you have sensitive or dry skin, because your skin considers them an irritant. Sperling, Robinson, and Klein each recommend staying away from products that have added fragrances no matter your skin type. “Fragrances are a common skin irritant and can irritate dry skin and spur breakouts of eczema,” Klein explains.

Parabens

Parabens are mentioned a lot in the “clean” and “natural” beauty conversation, but seldom is the word actually defined for us. So, what are they? Simply put: They’re preservatives and synthetic ingredients added to products that are meant to lengthen their shelf life. Chances are, you come into contact with parabens daily—and according to Adarsh Vijay Mudgil, M.D., the founder of Mudgil Dermatology, they might be irritating to dry skin simply because, “Those with dry skin are more prone to irritation and allergy.” While this doesn’t mean you have to change your swap out your skincare routine for only natural products, a cleaner line-up is worth considering. Plus, some parabens are actually banned in the EU, so, there’s that.

Glycolic Acid

Mudgil also recommends staying away from glycolic acid, which is a chemical exfoliant generally used to reduce and clear blackheads and clogged pores. While it’s important to keep dead skin cells at bay, if you have dry skin, you don’t need glycolic acid in your makeup formulas.

Salicylic Acid

This ingredient is generally found in skincare products marketed to those with oily and acne-prone skin. Both Mudgil and Robinson recommend staying away from salicylic acid in makeup if you have dry skin because it may ultimately lead to even more dryness. “Salicylic acid can be drying and is often used in fighting oily skin conditions like acne,” Robinson explains.

Chrissy Teigen  shared her  entire skin care routine on Instagram

“I will admit I am def proud my skin lately and feeling myself,” says Teigen. “I kind of use whatever is closest.” She then mentions that her facialist to the stars, Shani Darden, forces her to use iS Clinical cleanser and face lotion. “The IS clinical cleanser and the lotion is the only thing I use consistently and they’ve always been so good to me,” she says. Darden also recommended Teigen use SPF 30 sunscreen from Control Collective and La Mer’s Moisturizing Cream and Concentrate. “$, I know I know but I gotta be honest,” she admits about La Mer.

For you kind folks asking me to drop the skincare regimen, I will admit I am def proud of my skin lately and feeling myself! I kind of use whatever is closest but it consists of @shanidarden forcing me to use @isclinical cleanser and face lotion, @controlcorrective SPF 30, @lamer’s creme de la mer and concentrate ($$, I know I know but I gotta be honest) and a steady stream of @bioreus chin and nose strips. Mix that with anything anyone at @drjasondiamond’s office tells me to do facial wise and @simonourianmd1’s firm and fade cream when I’m feeling icks, and there you have it. A very simple (no) routine! But really. The IS clinical cleanser and the lotion is the only thing I use consistently and they’ve always been so good to me. Can find online – everything else just a bonus. Xx (edit: forgot one of my most important products, @drdennisgross alpha beta peel pads. So important for on and around my nose and chin. You’ll notice a HUGE difference!!)

How to Create And Wear Glossy Eyelids

BEAUTYBEAUTY TRENDSBlogUncategorized
how-to-create-and-wear-glossy-eyelids

A popular makeup trend on the fashion runways are glossy eyelids here are tips on how to create the look .

Part1

Prepping the Lids

  1. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 1
    1

Apply a light shadow. Before you add any gloss, you can create a beautiful effect by first applying a soft, shimmery glow to your lids. Anything with soft sheen looks wonderful, such as a pearl-colored shadow or highlight. You can apply it softly with a shadow brush, or simply dab a bit on with your fingertips.

    • While any kind of shadow works, a liquid, gel, or cream shadow will give your eyes a wetter, glossier look.
  2. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 2
    2

Line the top lash line. A black liquid liner is perfect for this. By using liquid eyeliner, you can create a thin, precise line that will define your lashes. It’s important to keep this line thin and as close to your lashes as possible, so that you reduce potential smudging once you add the gloss. If you want, you can certainly add a wing.[3]

    • This is the only stark, precise line you’ll create. You want to line your eye simply to emphasize your lashes and make them look fuller and darker. You’ll be covering this line later, though, so it’s okay if it’s not perfect. It’s simply the foundation.
  3. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 3
    3

Dab the eyeliner with a pencil liner. Once you’ve created that original precise line, you can loosen up. Now, your makeup application will be a bit messier and more sultry. Using a kohl pencil, go back over the liquid eyeliner. You don’t need to create a perfect line – in fact, you don’t want to. The kohl pencil will be smudged and blended with the gloss, so just dab it along your lash line however you want.

    • Once you add the gloss, you can always go back in and add more eyeliner as you see fit.
Part2

Applying the Gloss

  1. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 4
    1
Add some shine. There are a few different products you can choose from to add a bit of shine and start blending your eyeliner. Note that this isn’t the actual gloss, but will add a bit of luster to get you started. For this, you want to use a wax-based product that isn’t overly sticky. A wax-based product like MAC’s Mixing Medium Shine is ideal. If you don’t want to shell out the cash for a designer product, you can use some waxy lip balm to create the same effect.
    • If you’re trying this look out for the first time, it might be wise to save the cash and try creating it with cheaper products. If you love the look and want to wear it often, however, it’s worth investing in the longer-lasting products that are created specifically for the eyes.
  2. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 5
    2

Use the product to soften and blend the eyeliner. Whether you’re using the MAC product or a bit of balm, you’ll apply it the same way. Get a bit of the product on your fingertip and press it onto your eyelid. Using a light hand, carefully use the product to smudge out the kohl eyeliner you previously applied. Gently pull the eyeliner up the lid to create a softer, smokier effect.

    • If you want your lash line to be darkest, you can certainly add a bit more eyeliner to your lash line after you’ve smudged it out a bit. Remember, though, that this look really isn’t about precision or stark lines.
  3. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 6
    3
Finish with your gloss. Finally, after you’ve blended your eyeliner and laid a shiny foundation, it’s time to apply your gloss. There are a few different eye glosses on the market, like MAC Eye Gloss, NYX Lid Lacquer, MAKE Face Gloss, and Glossier Balm Dotcom. You can find a variety of glosses online or at your local beauty supply store. Use a flat brush or your finger to apply the gloss over your entire lid. Start in the middle and carefully sweep it outwards.
    • If you’re worried about your eyelids feeling sticky, avoid applying any product to the crease. Smooth the product to your lid below the crease and a bit above the crease, but don’t put any directly in it!
    • If you don’t want to buy a product meant specifically for your eye, you can always use a clear lip gloss or Vaseline-type product instead
Part3

Completing the Look

  1. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 7
    1
Apply a bit of highlight to your face. The defining characteristics of this look are dewy and glowing. By adding a bit of highlight to a few key places on your face, you’ll up the glow factor even more. Dust a bit right below your eyebrows, along your brow bone. Then, sweep a bit down the bridge of your nose, on the highest point of your cheekbones, and on your cupid’s bow.
  2. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 8
    2
Use a transparent or nude lip product. Glossy eyelids are perfect for a fresh-faced, semi-natural look. That being said, they are best paired with a soft, more natural lip color. You can simply roll on a bit of lip balm to keep your lips looking plump and moisturized, or add a bit of nude lipstick if you prefer wearing a heavier product. Whatever you choose to do, let your glossy lids be the star of the show.
  3. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 9
    3
Fill in your eyebrows. You don’t need crisp, perfectly manicured brows for this look. In fact, natural brows pair perfectly with this effortless, light look. However, natural brows can always be improved upon! Using an eyebrow pencil, powder, or pomade, lightly fill in any areas where your brows are sparse or thin. Use a spoolie to brush your brows out so that everything looks natural and soft.
  4. Image titled Create Glossy Eyelids Step 10
    4
Bring your gloss with you for touch-ups. Because this is a glossy, wetter look, you’re bound to have some inevitable movement. Most of the natural smudging is great – you don’t want your eyeliner to be perfectly clean and crisp. However, you also don’t want any smudges on your cheek or near your temple! Bring a little mirror and some extra gloss with you when you’re heading out the door. That way, you can fix any wayward smudges and reapply gloss to keep your lids shimmering all day and night.

Must-Try Skin Care Trends To Achieve Better Looking Skin

The global cosmetics market is believed to exceed USD $390 billion by the year 2024. According to Market Watch, changing lifestyle, demand for more natural skincare products, and smart marketing are the driving forces behind it. This is not surprising as customers are becoming smarter when it comes to their skin care choices. People nowadays prefer to go down the healthier route for their skin, from boosting their immune system, to increasing their water intake, and making their own facial masks too.

Demand for Clean Ingredients Continues

With consumers becoming more aware of the ingredients used on skin care products, many are turning to cleaner ingredients for their skin. These are products that use more organic or plant-based ingredients compared to chemical based ones just like First Aid Beauty. This brand is first in the market to deliver skin care solutions using clean ingredients that will not cause further irritations. And because they are transparent with the ingredients they are using, we will see more companies following their footsteps.

Personalized Skin Care Solutions

The combination of technology and personalized skin care is one of the most awaited trends this year. Dermatologists are using personalized skin solutions already, but we will see more genomics being conducted. Genomics will involve the use of blood tests to come up with a specific skin care treatment for customers. Artificial intelligence is being utilized to help narrow down appropriate skin care products by measuring the skin. Even facial recognition is being used to help find the right regimen for customers based on their skin’s condition.

Cosmo-ceutical-Grade Ingredients Are In

Dermatologists agree that we will be seeing more cosmeceutical-grade ingredients being used in many skin care products. One example here is the cinnamomum tamala extract, which contains flavonoids and phenols that are good for the skin. Integrating this ingredient in many cosmetics and skin care products can help fight excess sebum, erythema, as well as melanin. Dermatologists are excited to use newer and safer ingredients to help with treating skin conditions.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatments

We will be seeing more platelet-rich plasma treatments (PRP) as dermatologists are unlocking its benefits post treatment. Platelets have been found to work just like stem cells when they are put back in the skin. This is how dormant hair follicles are woken up by introducing platelet-rich plasma into the skin. The combination of microneedling and platelet-rich plasma produces faster relief post treatment, which is better than before. It is possible that PRP will be used to get rid of under eye circles by stimulating collagen production for a more youthful appearance.

The growth of the skincare industry is going nowhere but up over the years, as the demand for safer skin care products will continue. Fortunately, we are seeing companies trying to offer safer options to their customers through personalized skin care products, PRPs, and clean ingredients today.

CLEARstem Skin Care

BEAUTYBlog

Danielle and Kayleigh met when Kayleigh, a successful holistic nutritionist and health & wellness blogger, was dealing with Celiac reactions resulting in severe cystic acne and inflammation. This led her to Danielle, the owner of the most renowned acne clinic in Southern California, San Diego Acne Clinic. After working with Danielle, Kayleigh realized the true value of skincare, and the major role that ingredients play. Danielle began developments on a revolutionary skincare brand and Kayleigh immediately jumped on board. With her strong nutritional background, obsession for high-quality ingredients, and passion for non-toxic, natural skin treatments, it was the perfect match.

Danielle is a skin care expert, innovator and author, as well as former acne sufferer who has, due to her own acne struggle and 10+ year journey to find solutions, become a skin care and anti-acne expert! She has been changing lives of acne sufferers with 98% success rate in San Diego, CA. Most recently, Danielle has innovated an incredible CLEARstem serum that is anti-acne, hormone balancing, scar revising and anti-aging. She is still changing the lives of her acne patients at her SD Acne Clinic.  The La Jolla-based San Diego Acne Clinic has been clearing skin since it opened its doors in 2015.

CLEAR Purpose

Danielle and Kayleigh saw a huge need. A need for clean, non-toxic skincare for all ages that tackles the signs of acne AND aging. Danielle owns San Diego Acne Clinic and has seen first hand that over 90% of skincare products contain hidden pore-cloggers. Even “organic skincare” and “clean beauty” products. After partnering with Kayleigh, a holistic nutritionist and patient, the two created the perfect line for millennial skin and beyond.

Adult acne breakouts occur well into our 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. Most acne products create premature aging, while most anti-aging products have pore-clogging fillers that cause acne. You should not be forced to choose between acne products that harm your skin or anti-aging products that break you out. With revolutionary formulas and clinical experience, CLEARstem Skincare has helped thousands treat multiple skin concerns at once-with no toxic or damaging side effects. We got you!
