JAY-Z delivered a major surprise during his JAY-Z 30 concert in London when he welcomed Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean to the stage for an unforgettable celebration of the Fugees.
The two artists treated the packed crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to a powerful performance of the group’s timeless hit “Killing Me Softly.” As Lauryn Hill’s unmistakable voice filled the stadium, thousands of fans sang along to the Grammy-winning classic that helped define an era.
Hill and Wyclef also performed “Ready or Not” and “Fu-Gee-La,” creating a special mini-Fugees reunion during JAY-Z’s September 4, 2026, concert. Pras Michel was not reported as part of the appearance.
The reunion carried special meaning because JAY-Z has previously acknowledged the Fugees’ importance to his early international career. In the 1990s, he appeared as an opening act for the group in Europe before becoming one of the world’s most influential hip-hop artists.
Released on the Fugees’ landmark 1996 album, The Score, “Killing Me Softly” became a global phenomenon. Lauryn Hill’s soulful lead vocals, supported by the group’s hip-hop and Caribbean-influenced production, transformed the Roberta Flack classic for a new generation. The Fugees’ version reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom and won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
Three decades later, the song still has the power to unite an entire stadium.
The appearance was one of several memorable moments from JAY-Z’s London concert, which celebrated his extraordinary 30-year recording career. The show featured music from across his catalog and additional appearances by British stars Giggs and Idris Elba. JAY-Z also honored his wife, Beyoncé, whose 45th birthday fell on the same day.
For fans of ’90s hip-hop and R&B, seeing Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean perform these Fugees classics was more than a nostalgic moment. It was a reminder of the lasting cultural influence of The Score and the music that helped shape a generation.
JAY-Z 30 celebrated JAY-Z’s legacy, but for a few unforgettable minutes in London, the night also belonged to the Fugees.
The London reunion and three-song Fugees set were reported by Variety and Billboard.
