Celebrities in Valentino at the 2025 Met Gala:

Celebrities in Valentino at the 2025 Met Gala: Alessandro Michele Tailors “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” with Dramatic Elegance

At the 2025 Met Gala, themed Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, fashion’s elite turned out in breathtaking interpretations of sartorial history and high art. One of the evening’s most compelling showcases came from Valentino, under the creative vision of Alessandro Michele, whose styling captured the nuanced intersection of classic tailoring, Black cultural aesthetics, and romantic rebellion. Michele, known for his baroque surrealism and layered storytelling, styled eight celebrities, each look echoing his signature maximalism filtered through the house codes of Valentino.

Colman Domingo: Dual Impact

Valentino brand ambassador Colman Domingo made a dramatic statement by gracing the Met red carpet in two distinct Valentino looks, both styled by Michele. The first, a sharply tailored black velvet suit with silk satin lapels, merged ecclesiastical elegance with sculptural minimalism. Later, Domingo appeared in a regal floor-length overcoat dusted in gold embroidery over a high-collared cream suit—equal parts Harlem Renaissance and Roman opera. Domingo’s presence was a centerpiece for Valentino, embodying strength, intellect, and expressive masculinity.

Lana Del Rey: Gothic Romance

Singer Lana Del Rey channeled melancholic glamour in Valentino Haute Couture, wrapped in a haunting blend of black velvet and brown satin. The gown’s rigid structure, with delicate pleats and a corseted waist, evoked a 19th-century mourning gown seen through a surrealist lens. Her look, complete with dark floral accents and veil-like details, married Michele’s affinity for romantic darkness with Valentino’s Italian craftsmanship.

Freen Sarocha: Power in Minimalism

Thai actress and style icon Freen Sarocha stunned in a custom Valentino creation—an architectural column gown in ivory with angular tailoring and a sharply cinched waist. Subtle yet commanding, her look referenced traditional Thai ceremonial dress while nodding to the crisp lines of Savile Row. The minimalist palette let the tailoring take center stage.

Justice Smith: Modern Dandyism

Actor Justice Smith turned heads in a butter-hued flared suit with a striking black-and-butter silk sleeve and scarf detailing, created custom by Valentino. The romantic fluidity of the ensemble played beautifully with his bold hairstyle—finger waves, a nod to Harlem jazz age icons. His look blended masculinity and softness, echoing the fluid tailoring theme of the night.

Sha’Carri Richardson: Lace Elegance

Track star Sha’Carri Richardson brought soft drama in a lace and chiffon gown by Valentino, a masterclass in texture and transparency. The flowing silhouette, sheer layers, and trailing train captured the delicacy of Black femininity and the fierceness of a sprinter on the world stage. Her look served as a poetic take on speed, grace, and resilience.

Barry Keoghan: Revolutionary Flair

Irish actor Barry Keoghan arrived in a classic Valentino suit heightened by a dramatic red sash and jeweled sleeves, injecting rebellion into an otherwise formal look. The rich textures and bold accessories channeled a revolutionary spirit, reminiscent of 18th-century uniforms worn by Black abolitionist leaders reimagined through Michele’s theatrical lens.

Clairo: Uniformed Whimsy

Singer-songwriter Clairo stepped into the Met with an eclectic twist: a structured Valentino jacket and pleated skirt, styled alongside the Valentino Garavani cat handbag, a playful but symbolic accessory. Her look blurred prep-school chic with avant-garde commentary, highlighting the youthful, queer interpretations of tailoring in contemporary fashion culture.

Amelia Gray: Colorblock Precision

Model Amelia Gray wore a tailored red and cream cropped jacket over nude trousers, layered atop red tights, with black dazzling shoes completing the ensemble. The look mixed precision tailoring with visual disruption—bold color-blocking meeting street-savvy sensuality, encapsulating Michele’s disruptive take on modern elegance.

Michele’s Valentino collective at the 2025 Met Gala offered a visual dialogue between culture, craft, and identity. Each celebrity wore more than just clothes—they embodied a narrative. From finger waves to red sashes, from lace trains to butter-hued suits, Valentino under Michele did not just participate in Superfine: Tailoring Black Style—it helped define it.
