Akech’s outfit is comprised of two pieces; a gilet-inspired mini dress and a floor-skimming tailcoat lined with hand-crafted organza feathers. A feather-inspired custom collar completed the look with a show stopping extravagance that’s perfect for the Met Gala. It was designed to evoke the moment of metamorphosis, and took a team of four 145 hours to apply 25,550 Swarovski crystals in a degrade pattern. Paired with Swan rings from the Vienna Collection, Akech glittered as she ascended the steps.
This year, Swarovski ‘s Global Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert walked the red carpet with Adut Akech, Alex Consani, and Sora Choi, each wearing a couture look with paired Swarovski jewels. “This year my approach was to embody the characteristics of the Swarovski Swan and to merge them with a study of dandy style,” Engelbert said ahead of the event.
