Alicia Keys meant business last night as she stepped out to the 2025 Breakthrough Prize Ceremony to celebrate the latest and greatest scientific achievements.
For the occasion, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter slipped into an oversized suit set from Fear of God’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, making the look her own with her signature swagger. A gray turtleneck and loose pinstripe pants acted as her base, while a matching pinstripe jacket served as the centerpiece of her look. Though comically oversized, the jacket retained its structure with heavily padded shoulders and large lapels, creating a zoot suit-like silhouette.
Keys gave her ensemble a bit of feminine energy with her accessorizing (and the help of stylist Jason Bolden). Several diamond-encrusted rings were stacked upon her fingers, while below, a pair of reflective silver heels poked out from underneath her baggy pants. Chunky diamond earrings and silver wire-rimmed sunglasses took her look to the next level, making it feel more cool than costumey. Slicked-back rope braids and a bold red lipstick acted as the finishing touches.
It makes sense that Keys would dress like a force—she is one, after all, having debuted her first Broadway musical, Hell’s Kitchen, last year. “Thirteen years developing and dreaming about this project, and here we are,” she told Harper’s Bazaar last year, following the musical’s nomination for a whopping 13 Tony awards. “This story belongs to everyone who watches it—you know these people, you know these moments, you know these feelings. It’s incredible to me that these streets right outside the doors of the Shubert Theatre can have such an impact on people from all over the globe.”
The production—which ended up winning two Tonys—is just one of the singer’s many projects. Her nonprofit She Is the Music challenges the music industry’s gender imbalance through all-female songwriting camps and mentorship programs, while Keys herself has also been involved in local New York City advocacy campaigns. And if anyone can make a power suit look good, it’s a powerful woman.
