Rollin 60s Crips Leader, Big U,
Big U, & Bricc Baby were arrested this morning by the LAPD. “Operation Draw Down.”
South Central, Los Angeles. 1985. Big U is one of the figures in the industry who came directly from the streets. Growing up in South Central, Big U is from Arlington and Slauson, which is known as 60’s territory. The Arlington Gang was led by Big U’s cousin Chilly Capone, and as time went on Arlington guys would call themselves Rollin’ 60s as they were from the same area. Rollin’ 60s wasn’t started by Big U or Chilly Capone, although they were the second generation of what would become Rollin’ 60s.
As the Crack epidemic came in, the focus shifted to getting money, which also brought more enemies. More enemies meant more firearms, in which the Gangs in LA now had unlimited access. Big U would also rob dealers, and after attempting to rob an undercover officer who posed as a dealer, he was sent to prison for 23 years, only serving 12. Before going to prison, Big U managed Kurupt in 1990 who would go on to sign with Death Row after Big U went to prison.
Post release, Big U would get into the music industry, as a liaison to connect street rappers in LA with industry executives, as he had ties to Suge Knight, and learned the business from books that Michael “Harry-O” Harris provided in prison. To the general public Big U is recognized from his days managing the late Nipsey Hussle and the issues they had prior to reconciling, as well as theories that arose after Nipsey’s death.
Big U has been the center of attention since the 2019 death of Nipsey Hussle. Today his alleged actions involve M*rder, extortion, and more. Can read more about the charges and investigation here.
