Mandy Moore Says L.A. House Burned Down in Eaton Wildfire: “I’m Absolutely Numb”
“This is Altadena. Leveled. My sweet home,” she shared on her Instagram.
Mandy Moore shared that she tragically lost her home in the deadly wildfires ravaging Los Angeles.
The This Is Us actress has taken to her Instagram Story since Tuesday night to share updates, first revealing that she had evacuated and was safe with her “kids, dogs and cats.” She added in her initial post, “Praying and grateful for the first responders.”
She updated her followers Wednesday morning, writing, “Grateful for the kindness of friends that we had a place to land last night. Trying to shield the kids from the immense sadness and worry I feel. Praying for everyone in our beautiful city. So gutted for the destruction and loss. Don’t know if our place made it. #eatonfire.”
Later in the day, Moore posted a video of what appeared to be her driving through the destruction in her community, as smoke continued to engulf the sky. She shared that her Altadena, California, home was burned down in the Eaton Fire.
“This is Altadena. Leveled. My sweet home,” she wrote. “I am devastated and gutted for those of us who’ve lost so much. I’m absolutely numb.”
In a follow-up post, she added, “My children’s school is gone. Our favorite restaurants, leveled. So many friends and loved ones have lost everything too. Our community is broken but we will be here to rebuild together. Sending love to all affected and on the front lines trying to get this under control.”
On Thursday, Moore returned to her neighborhood and says she was able to park and walk up the street to witness “all the loss.”
“Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact,” she said, sharing photos of what remains of her family home. “Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone. My in laws. My brother and sister in law- 6 weeks from welcoming their first baby. Our best friends. Feeling weird survivors guilt. We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and support.”
The A Walk to Remember actress is among those who evacuated areas of L.A. due to the wildfires sweeping across the county. Many Hollywood stars have now confirmed they tragically lost their homes in the wildfires, including Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, Cary Elwes, Paris Hilton, Bozoma Saint John, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Diane Warren, Cameron Mathison and Ricki Lake, among others.
The fire started Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, before spreading to parts of Malibu and Santa Monica overnight. As of early Thursday, the L.A. Fire Department said the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst and Woodley fires remained zero percent contained.
The Eaton Fire in the Altadena-Pasadena area that claimed Moore’s home is blamed for the five deaths that have been reported since the wildfires ignited this week.
