Anitta In custom Dolce & Gabbana and Suzanne Kalan @ Vmas 2024
Anitta is up for two awards tonight: Best Latin Song, in which she has two nominations (“Mil Veces,” plus her and Peso Pluma’s “BELLAKEO”), and Best Editing (“Mil Veces”).
The Brazilian artist spoke to Cosmopolitan UK earlier this year about her journey in the industry and her rise. “My career has been an exercise in ego,” she said. “But I was born with this sense to keep pushing.”
She explained further, “I always knew what I was going to do. I told my family I was going to be a singer, all my stories of exactly how my life was going to go. ‘There’s the stadium I will play at. Here’s where I’ll build my house. That’s the TV show I’ll be on.’”
Anitta, whose real name is Larissa de Macedo Machado, crafted a stage persona separate from herself. “I created ‘Anitta’ when I was a teenager,” she said. “She was sexy and intelligent, feminine and aggressive—all these things at once. I wasn’t even an artist yet, and I had this other me. I thought that if I was different, maybe my life would be different? I wanted to create this persona to do the things that I didn’t have the courage to do. I’m still learning more about my sense of self.”
