Embattled actor Jonathan Majors was celebrated for his perceived perseverance at the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards 2024. Upon receiving the award, the former Marvel Cinematic Universe star grew very emotional.
Per TMZ, this was the fourth annual ceremony for the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards. Majors attended alongside his girlfriend, Meagan Good, with other celebrities present including host Tiffany Haddish, Cardi B, and Sharon Stone. He was given the Perseverance Award by motivational speaker Iyanla Vanzant, and the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania actor spent over 15 minutes addressing his recent struggles to the crowd in attendance. Through tears, Majors commented on how he came to “embody” the word “perseverance,” suggesting this was in large part to how he’d been failed by the criminal justice system.
“As a Black man in the criminal justice system, I felt anger, I felt sadness, hurt, surprise when they snatched me up out of my apartment in handcuffs,” Majors said on the stage. “Perseverance means persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay. And the God I serve has put me in a position where I’ve had to embody that word more than I wished or wanted to. We live in a world where men, Black men in particular, are propped up as either superheroes or supervillains. But I’ve come to realize, me, personally, I ain’t none of that. It was fun. I’m just me.”
