Essential Shoes For Any Man’s Wardrobe
The old saying goes “Clothes make the man”, and of course, an individual is far more complex than just the clothes he wears, but there is still some truth in the statement as they can make a difference in how others perceive him and even how he perceives himself! Today we are going to start at the bottom of a man’s wardrobe by considering his choice of shoes! There is a shoe for almost every occasion, and there isn’t enough space to cover them all, so here are some of the options we think are the most essential.
Crocs – These incredibly comfy, springy-bottomed rubber shoes are a delight to war. First designed to be used as a boat shoe, crocs serve well in any situation where things might get a bit damp or muddy, be it on the beach, in the garden, or just for a walk on a rainy day.
Penny Loafers – these lightweight slip-ons are made from leather and are best worn without socks! They are casual enough for a walk in the park and a picnic, while a well-shined pair can even do duty as a dress shoe, although it would be best to wear some socks for more formal occasions! Don’t forget to slide a shiny penny in the slot to complete this iconic footwear picture.
Sneakers – These highly versatile, lightweight, and super-comfortable shoes are everybody’s go-to for fun and leisure activities, you can play sports in them, go shopping, or just hang out in your favourite pair of sneakers. One thing we have to mention though is do yourself a favour and never, ever think it would be cute to wear a pair of them to a formal occasion, it’s totally gauche and would make you look like a twit- just say no!
Sandals – This simple, open-toe, strap-on footwear is possibly the first type of shoe ever made, and their use stretches back centuries in many cultures. Choose a pair that is comfortable and sturdy. If you plan on doing a lot of outdoor activities look for a more robust set with grippy soles. Important safety tip- if you haven’t worn sandals in a long time, such as during winter, be sure to apply sunscreen to your feet the first few days you venture into the sun to avoid burning your toes!
Oxfords – Time to clean up for that wedding or important business meeting? Put your Oxfords on, they are the quintessential dress shoes and every man must own a pair, even if you never set foot in an office! These lace-up leather shoes never go out of style, they are a timeless classic. When in doubt choose black, but cordovan and dark brown are generally fine for most formal outings.
Moccasins – These simple shoes don’t have a heel and are made from soft leather. Traditional moccasins didn’t even have a sole, and were made from a single piece wrapped around the foot drawn together by a seam at the top! Today’s moccasins are equipped with a sole to make them more practical, but maintain the bold seam lines and don’t have a heel.
