Afternoon Tea Anyone?
Tea is a popular pastime all throughout the world. But today, we don’t just have your typical teabag tea with sugar and a drop of milk, oh no no no. The range of flavours has increased exponentially over the last 20 years. Along with this are all the new health benefits that have long been known to certain parts of the world, but are now becoming known worldwide. Here are some of those teas and their benefits for your enjoyment.
- Chamomile Tea – Now well known and one of the most famous herbal teas available on the tea market, chamomile tea has a long list of health benefits. It promotes sleep which can lead to a reduction in stress, it is known as an anti-inflammatory and may help reduce inflammation and pain, and it can also boost digestive health, relieving you of potential bloating and indigestion.
- Black Tea – Good ol’ fashioned black tea. Maybe not for some, but comes with some great health benefits, such as it may help reduce cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels, improving gut health by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria within the gut, and also an energy boost, as it has caffeine in it so can give you a mild boost of energy when your feeling a little lethargic.
- Ginger Tea – With its strong, robust flavour, lots of health-conscious people enjoy a good cup of ginger tea with their acai bowl, and with good reason. Ginger tea can boost one’s immune system, as it contains antioxidants and antimicrobial properties, can help in times of sickness, lessening the effects of nausea, indigestion, and motion sickness, and can help reduce inflammation, especially arthritis.
- Green Tea – Not matcha tea. Matcha tea is a type of green tea, but this is purely green tea. One of the most popular teas of choice, also has many benefits along with a decent taste (in my opinion). Can actually help with weight loss, as it can increase your body’s metabolism and fat-burning ability, it contains L-theanine, which can give your brain a nice little boost, and it may help improve cardiovascular health by lowering bad cholesterol levels, leaving your heart smiling.
- Peppermint Tea – One of my personal favourites, although I am a PG tips kind of tea person through-and-through, with a refreshing taste with a hint of sweetness, can make you feel as if you’re cheating if you’re on a strict diet, but it has some great health benefits. Firstly, it may help reduce muscle pain and headaches, it can help clearing out any nasty nasal congestion you may have, which helps your ability to breathe (pretty important, I’m sure you’ll agree), while also helping those of us with indigestion, bloating, or even gas issues.
And there are many, many more teas available to suit your personal taste and health benefits. So, go on, have that biscuit with your tea, but make it a healthy tea so that you are giving your body some of the great benefits available from these fantastic teas we now have available to us.
