Margaret Persaud, based in Queens, New York, is the creative force behind Gamakache Black, a brand that came to life in 2000. Inspired by childhood memories in Guyana, where she admired her grandmother’s sewing, Margaret developed a profound love for fashion, particularly for garments in black, symbolizing glamour for her. Despite working intermittently for her brand, the loss of her brother Germaine in 2007 reignited her passion, driving her to design exquisite pieces in his honor.
Gamakache Black specializes in catering to the discerning tastes of those who adore black attire, offering an array of black hues across a variety of textured fabrics. Recently, Margaret has ventured into designing with all-white fabrics, maintaining the same level of sophistication and texture. She finds immense joy in seeing individuals wear her designs and relishes every opportunity to showcase her work, aspiring for more people to embrace and enjoy her creations. With numerous fashion shows to her name, Margaret was honored with an award from SPICE ISLAND KIDS in 1995, acknowledging her significant contributions to the fashion industry. She has also been featured in the designer incubator program produced by Sizzle Arts for Fashion Sizzle
