Thanksgiving this year took on a more rock ‘n’ roll vibe, courtesy of Dolly Parton. Fresh from the launch of her latest album, “Rockstar,” the country icon graced the stage at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show during the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game against the Washington Commanders.
For her dynamic performance, the legendary singer donned a variation of the Cowboys’ cheerleader uniform, featuring a white vest adorned with blue stars, a daring blue crop top, and white shorts. Despite the appearance of a bare midriff, her stomach was artfully concealed by a fully bedazzled mesh. A crystal star adorned Parton’s belly button, and additional crystals adorned the tights she wore.
Parton commenced the halftime show with her timeless hit “Jolene,” seamlessly transitioning into another classic, “9 to 5.” She also treated the audience to her rendition of Queen’s “We Are the Champions.”
Having been announced as the Thanksgiving Day game halftime performer a month prior, Parton expressed her gratitude for partnering with The Salvation Army in a press statement, emphasizing the significance of the Red Kettles as symbols of hope for those facing difficult times.
Reflecting on her latest album, “Rockstar,” which debuted on Nov. 17, the 30-track compilation includes covers, original compositions, and collaborations with luminaries such as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Pink, Brandi Carlile, Melissa Etheridge, and Sting, among others.
In anticipation of the album release, Parton unveiled her rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” a duet with her 30-year-old goddaughter. Cyrus expressed her gratitude on Instagram, acknowledging the honor of hearing her aunt sing one of her songs and expressing excitement about their new collaboration.
Recalling her reaction to “Wrecking Ball” in an Instagram video, Parton likened it to the impact of hearing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” for the first time, underscoring the emotional power of the song’s chorus. The collaboration with Cyrus represents another milestone in their cherished relationship, marked by mutual admiration and musical synergy.
