Useful Tips for Spicing It Up: Exploring Flavorful Boiled Crawfish Recipes

The most underrated seafood is the crawfish, which are magical when prepared with prowess. Different markets have different names: crawdads, mudbugs, freshwater lobsters, or crayfish. There’s nothing that shouts springtime like a crawfish boil. There are plenty of crawfish recipes to delight family and friends or your customers, which are easy to make. Get to the nearest seafood market, buy live crawfish, and spice up your recipes to create finger-licking crawfish.

Smoky Chipotle Boiled Crawfish 

Ingredients

Making smoky chipotle boiled crawfish is a daunting process requiring you to put effort and time into it. List all the ingredients required, so you won’t miss the flavor. The ingredients required for making boiled crawfish with smoky chipotle include live crawfish, or you could use gulf shrimp, onions, butter or milk cream with salt, chili powder made from chipotle containing less than 2% of the chili, spirit vinegar, dehydrated garlic, cayenne, pepper, and natural smoke flavor. 

Cooking Instructions

  • Boil water in a large pot.
  • Add onions, pepper, garlic, salt, spirit vinegar, chili powder, cayenne pepper, and chili. Allow the mixture to simmer for 15-20 minutes. 
  • Remove debris or dirt on the crawfish or gulf shrimps by cleaning and rinsing them.
  • Add your crawfish or gulf shrimps to the pot with the mixture and allow it to boil until it turns pinkish red. Crawfish will turn a bright red color, while shrimp will turn a pinkish color.
  • Allow the shrimp or your crawfish to soak in the seasoned water for 15-25 minutes.
  • Serve them while still hot. Add some butter and cream as your sauce.

Asian Style Boiled Crawfish

Boiled crawfish is easy to make at home. The secret to making boiled Asian-style crawfish is using hot pot soup pastes in almost all Asian grocery stores. Asian soup pastes are spicy and hot; purchase authentic pastes to give you an Asian feel.

Ingredients

9-11 lbs crawfish,

Garlic heads,

Vegetable oil not exceeding 2-3 tablespoons,

1 packet of hot soup paste of your liking,

Beer, 

Buy a packet of hot pot spicy soup based on your preference. 

Cooking Instructions

  • Use running water to scrub each crawfish one by one to remove dirt.
  • Devein your crawfish by removing its tail’s center part.
  • Boil your crawfish into one of the hot soup pastes or the hot pot spicy soup base.
  • Add salt to your boiling pot and leave it until it cooks.
  • Peel the garlic cloves until they are finely chopped.
  • Heat a lightweight pan over high heat, then add finely chopped garlic and vegetable oil.
  • Let the garlic cook until it turns golden brown slightly for a minute.
  • Add the hot pot soup paste.
  • The boiled crawfish is ready; add it to the mixture by now.
  • Fry and keep stirring for a few minutes, then add some beer.
  • Let it cook for 8-10 minutes and stir to allow seasoning of all the crawfish.
  • Serve while still hot.

Louisiana Crawfish Boil

This crawfish boil is a wholesome meal that you will crave repeatedly. It is a meal suitable for all, friends and family. You could add other vegetables and seafood according to your preference. 

Ingredients

Garlic, bay leaves, pepper, salt, dry crab boil, liquid shrimp, and crab boil seasonings,

Be sure to buy oranges, red potatoes, green beans, artichokes, baby corn, and onions,

The lemons and oranges should be fresh, bright, and have a fruity flavor, Sausages and, 

Live crawfish.

Cooking Instructions

  • Add water into a large pot. Add in your bay leaves, garlic, pepper, salt, liquid and dry crab seasonings, lemons, oranges, potatoes, and artichokes.
  • Boil your pot and its mixture over high heat; you could reduce the heat later to allow it to simmer.
  • After some minutes, stir in green beans, mushrooms, baby corn, and onions; let your broth cook for 15 minutes. Add your nicely chopped sausages and cook for about 5 minutes. 
  • Add crawfish into your boiling mixture and let it boil for some minutes, then simmer until they turn red. Do not let the crawfish overcook because the shells will become difficult to peel.
  • Remove your mixture from the heat, drain the liquid completely, and spread it on a tray while still hot. This wholesome meal is for the whole family.

Cajun Style Crawfish Boil

Ingredients

Live crawfish, 5-7 pounds per head,

Kosher salt,

Jalapeno peppers with seeds, 

Yellow onions,

Red potatoes,

Lemons squeezed into water,

Corns,

Powdered spicy crawfish boil.

Cajun Dipping Sauce

!/2 ketchup cup

1 mayo cup

2 lemons juice

4 Worcestershire shakes of sauce,

¼ Louisiana hot sauce cup,

Cajun seasoning,

Black pepper and salt.

Cooking Instructions

  • Add gallons of water into a pot. Add spice mix, salt, peppers, onions, and lemons, and stir properly until the mixture boils.
  • Add potatoes and let it simmer for 20 minutes. 
  • Add your corn and let it cook for 10 minutes. Finally, add your crawfish and stir completely to spread your mixture evenly into the crawfish. 
  • Once the crawfish turns bright red, turn off the heat and cover the pot for 15 minutes to allow the crawfish to soak up and season.
  • After you season your crawfish, drain the liquid and serve on a large picnic table while still hot.
  • Finally, mix all the Cajun sauce ingredients, and stir them up to a completely fine sauce. Dip your ready crawfish into the Cajun dipping sauce and enjoy your meal.
  • You can enjoy your crawfish with beverages, but beer is mostly served on a family evening. 

Lastly, as you refine your skills in making boiled crawfish, understand its health benefits. Crawfish is a white meat, low-fat, low-calorie seafood whose tail meat holds a very low amount of calories. It is characterized by lean meat rich in proteins. It serves healthy proportions of essential amino acids. The low fat and calories in such seafood reduce the risk of stroke, heart attacks, hypertension, and obesity. The lack of saturated fats reduces cardiovascular diseases because low cholesterol makes it challenging to block the blood vessels. Crawfish is also a major source of vitamin A and omega 3-fatty acids. Crawfish are found in freshwater, making it rich in vitamin B complex from the insects it feeds on.
