For Romper’s June Father’s Day issue, we talked to Kevin Hart. Hart is considered one of the hardest working men in showbiz, he wears multiple hats — comedian, actor, host, author, producer, and most importantly…dad. For this issue, Kevin Hart talks to us about parenting, the pros and cons of fame, and how his motto is to move forward.
Below are some highlights of Kevin Hart’s interview, and for the full story, visit: https://www.romper.com/
On the most important thing he can do as a parent…
“What I’ve learned as a father is that the most important thing in the world is listening. It’s not about trying to be right. It’s not about advice. It’s about listening, understanding, and then doing your best to give information so that your kids can make the best choices for them. Not for you, but for them.”
On his dad being sober now and part of his children’s lives…
“It’s not about making up for the things that he can’t change. It’s about enjoying the present, being a great grandparent. I don’t like to focus on things that you can’t change. If you’re about solution, sometimes solution is finding a happiness in forward progress.”
On his kids finding out about scandals such as cheating on his wife while she was pregnant and how to deal with it…
“You have to talk to your kids about it because it’s going to come out. And some of them are cool about it and some of them are not, depending on the situation. You have to understand the different personalities and manage them correctly. My kids understand who their father is. And, unfortunately, there’s a gift and a curse that comes with that. The gift is the life that you’re able to live, and the curse is the spotlight that’s on you constantly.”
On not watching the George Floyd video with his children…
“‘Hey, kids, let’s watch a dark death video. This will be good family time.’ No, that’s not that we’re doing. The sad part is as a parent you don’t have answers. You don’t have the answers because you’re not seeing effort from the masses.”
