The 8-year-old Blue Ivy Carter is continuing to expand her already impressive resume. Daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z has just booked her latest gig and we are already in love. On Monday, author and filmmaker Matthew A. Cherry announced that Blue Ivy Carter would narrate the audiobook version of Hair Love.
Cherry gave a sneak peek of Bey and Jay’s eldest showing off her narrator skills, posting an 8-second clip on Twitter. Blue Ivy can be heard reading the book title and introducing Cherry and herself.
Cherry, he began his Hair Love project in 2017 with a Kickstarter campaign aimed as raising money to create a short animated film about a Black father trying to style his daughter’s hair. The project surpassed its $75,000 goal and raised $300,000. Working with co-producer Karen Rupert Toliver, Cherry created Hair Love and released it in 2019 with Sony Pictures Animation, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film that same year. Featuring an all-star list of producers and backers, including Jordan Peele, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Yara Shahidi and Gabourey Sidibe, the seven-minute film featured Insecure actor and creator Issa Rae as the mother.
