Los Angeles Lakers franchise celebrated winning its 17th title for 2019-20 season.
After the one point Lakers defeat on Friday by the Miami Heats , in the fifth game of the decisive series, LeBron James led the Lakers on Sunday , scoring a triple-double, 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists.
At 35 years of age, the guard won his fourth career title, fulfilling his promise to take the California team to the top of the NBA championship, which has not happened since 2010, and to honor the late Kobe Bryant.
In Game 6, Lakers forward LeBron James scored 28 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and dished 10 assists, while forward Anthony Davis scored 19 points, got 15 boards and made 3 assists.
It became the fourth NBA championship for James, who played his 260th playoff game on Sunday — a record. He was also awarded the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award for the fourth time.
The 35-year-old veteran won the award and the title twice with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013 and with his home state franchise the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.
“I came here to put this franchise back where it belongs,” said Lebron the 16-time All-Star, referring to the Lakers.
James opted out of his contract with Cleveland and signed with Los Angeles in July 2018, Davis joined him a year later with a trade to make the Lakers once again a powerhouse.
Anthony Davis won his first NBA championship after the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.
The 27-year-old forward admitted that he was emotional when he realized that he was a champion. He talked about his feelings postgame.
“Nothing was really going through my mind. I was just emotional…,” Davis said. “When came out the game I just started feeling it. About 25 seconds left that feeling just turned to reality. I was 25 seconds from becoming a champion.
“We got emotional. This entire journey that I’ve been on, my team’s been on, organization’s been on. It all just came full circle with this championship. I just got really emotional.
“He [LeBron] was bothering me, telling me ‘Aww, you soft, you cry baby’ I walked to the back and there was a banner trophy and just like kind of grabbed and then we walked back out to the court. But it was an unbelievable feeling and just emotional moment for me.”
