On July 5, 2020, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn as part of the NHS birthday celebrations in Norfolk. Sunday marks the 72nd anniversary of the formation of the National Health Service (NHS). The UK has hailed its NHS for the work they have done during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Duchess wore a new floral print shirt dress by Beulah London. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark wore the same dress in December last year. The couple also took the opportunity to “thank health and social care staff who are continuing to provide crucial support in the national response to COVID-19,” per a press release from Kensington Palace.
The hospital has also been key in providing care during the coronavirus pandemic, with approximately 450 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment at the center. The press release also revealed that Queen Elizabeth Hospital “has now recruited 46 patients to the COVID-19 Recovery Trial, with more than 500 enrolled in their other coronavirus research studies.”
During the visit, Duchess Kate and Prince William participated in an afternoon tea to celebrate the National Health Service’s birthday. Plus, Queen Elizabeth Hospital will celebrate its own 40th anniversary on July 22, 2020. Per Kensington Palace’s press release, “The Queen Elizabeth Hospital has been caring for patients since 1980 and currently serves a population of around 331,000 people from across Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.”
