Every collection has it’s Hero; that one gown with high allurement, desired by all and destined for viral exposure. Look 34 is Mr Hobeika’s Hero for SS20.Oozing panache, it was slated for stardom in Cannes. I was inundated with requests for it and its prospective schedule would have seen it rotate globally for fittings in the lead-up to the festival. Suddenly, on Friday 13th March all conversations came to a halt, but the uncertainty lingered as to whether the festival itself, whose opening ceremony was initially dated May 12th, would go on. It eventually transpired that Cannes would be indeterminably postponed and the overall state of the world would go into such turmoil that the simple inkling of a gown’s diary, which had previously been of such priority, would become sheer absurdity. But still, I wanted to look beyond the adversity and the widespread grief – and give Look 34 a moment of virtual glory by whimsically imagining three apparitions on the montée des marches. I reached out to talented illustrator @assaadworld and I am enlivened by his three depictions for @harpersbazaararabia.
