Fashion Evolved Couture Presentation by The Upcycle Project
Artist, fashion and lifestyle designer Kesi Gibson presents The BAIA Gown; a classic a-line gown, with clean lines and tastefully glamorous hand-painted finishes, inspired by Vladislav Doronin. The Fashion Evolved presentation by The Upcycle Project brought together a select group of fashion designers, art collectors, fashion enthusiasts, international influencers and the media. Specifically and specially for this occasion celebrating sustainability, Kesi Gibson created The BAIA Gown. The primary material used in construction is a recycled sail Inspiration. The dress was both hand-made and hand-pained by Kesi.
True to her island (Jamaica) roots, and astrology sign (Pisces), Kesi is a lover of the ocean. Sailing has always been a big part of her lifestyle. It is therefore no surprise that when she decided to create this masterful couture piece to present during Art Basel ’17, she went for an out of the box constitution – one that represents key virtues of KYU BY KESI.
As a contemporary artist, who focuses heavily on creating wearable art, Kesi’s pre-occupation with the possibilities of expression in abstraction can be experienced in every stitch. As you discover her body of work (KyuByKesi.com), you will notice a geometric undertone in almost everything she does, with a strong focus on lines and indirection.
Launched in New York, during fashion week in 2015, by LRL Group, KYU BY KESI has been on a steady growth path. KYU BY KESI currently has three accessories collections, and most recently a ready to wear collection that was presented in Miami in June, 2017 during a private showing for 150 guests, hosted by noTheName Whether it is in Kesi’s hands on conscientiously curated approach to globally sourced raw materials, or the brands expressed commitment to positive social impact, KYU BY KESI is dedicated to “Putting Humanity Back into Fashion.” Through KYU BY KESI social impact arm “The Melting Pot Movement” KYU BY KESI has partnered with Shake A Leg Miami and The Impossible Dream Project, whose collective goal is to create possibilities for people with disabilities, using water and in particular the ocean as a vehicle of empowerment.
