We can’t forget to make mention of the recognition Davanna received from the Iconic Naomi Campbell tweeting out that Diva Davanna was her “Mini Me”. What an HONOR.
In 2011 volunteering at a back to school giveaway in her home town of Newark NJ, she realized the importance of being prepared for school and how important that event meant to the children and a greater need for more events like this. Davanna took her visions & passion and came up with a way to give back and wanted to form her own back to school giveaway.
Therefore in 2012 with the help of Newark Housing Authority, Newark Community leaders and family & friends Davanna was able to contribute nearly 500 of book bags filled with school supplies.
Since the start of her annual back to school event which is dear to her heart, Davanna has been able to team up with the likes of Councilmen/women, city hall gaining their support to help contribute thousands of book bags filled with school supplies in and around her community over the last 4 years to date.
With having the opportunity over the last 12 years to travel from State to State, Davanna made herself available to participate in a variety of community related events all designed for benefits & causes to spread awareness. She began to realize the direct impact she had on lives in and around the communities, and the ability to make a difference as well as have an impact on people.
She realized it was time to “pay it forward”.
Davanna also had the opportunity to appear on WNBC channel 4 NY/host: Roseanne Colletti, and ABC/Here and Now channel 7 NY/host: Sandra Bookman, To talk about her annual back to school events, as well as to promote her first book she wrote in 2014 titled “The Importance of Being Prepared for School” (sold on Amazon.com) in hopes to educate students as well as parents on the importance.
Davanna began to notice an alarming rate of students arriving to class daily unprepared without the right tools for learning, some students had no writing materials, no note books, book bags…etc. this was happening throughout the entire school year. She realized it was an alarming fact that 40% of children focus more on their school’s attire appearance then realizing the importance of being prepared for School.
